In CYO sports, the purpose is to foster the total personal and spiritual development of the young person. CYO sports are for all youth in the Catholic Church, and reflect the diversity of the community, including these with all levels of gifts and abilities.
In CYO sports, Christian values such as fair play, sportsmanship, honesty, respect, loyalty, patience, tolerance, gratitude and humility must be taught in words and actions.
The ultimate responsibility for the success of CYO sports rests with the administrators and coaches at each parish. The adults selected to provide witness to the young people through the ministry of CYO sports must know that the program exists to foster the Christian growth of young people, only. These individuals must be held to accountable by the parish community to always model Catholic values and virtues.
CYO sports can be a rewarding ministry to young people, and help them to reach their God-given potential. CYO sports plays a vital role in total youth ministry for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, allowing youth to become responsible members of their faith community.

CYO Mission Statement:
The Catholic Youth Organization, a ministry of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, exists to deepen relationships with Jesus Christ and one another, to celebrate the God-given gifts of each individual and to enhance faith formation and personal development of youth by providing athletic, camping and enrichment opportunities.
CYO AFFILIATE RULE
In order to participate in CYO grade school sports, all participants must be either a student enrolled in a Catholic school or a child residing in a household registered in and participating in a Catholic parish. A participating household is determined by official registration on the parish roster. However, pastors, at their discretion, may also require regular attendance at Mass and or active participation in the religious education or youth ministry programs offered by the parish.

CONCUSSION AWARENESS
The Catholic Youth Organization has partnered with the St. Vincent Sports Performance and the Athlete’s Concussion Alliance to provide the tools and information regarding the CYO Concussion Education Initiative and Policy. It is the CYO’s responsibility to provide this important information to coaches, parents, athletes, athletic directors and gym managers. In turn, it is their responsibility to help the CYO implement the Concussion Education Initiative and Policy in all CYO athletic programs. Should an athlete sustain a concussion or exhibit signs of a concussion, steps need to be taken to ensure that he or she is given the most up to date care and are ensured a safe return to either practice or games.

COACHES
We are grateful for our volunteer coaches who step up to give children the chance to experience playing on a team. Our athletic program has a variety of skill levels available to all participants. We are proud of our trophy case in the St. Clare Hall entry way, which has been growing since we started our sports program in 2004.
The Archdiocese of Indianapolis requires that everyone who has regular contact with children in church ministry must participate in a safe environment training program called Safe Parish. This requirement is part of the Archdiocese efforts in providing a safe environment for the children who participate in all of the various ministries of the church.
